TWEETS

Sheldon Day (MCL sprain) and Daniel Cage (knee sprain) are both OUT vs. , HC Brian Kelly says.

Everett Golson (sprained AC joint) should be fine.

Brian Kelly says there’s been a fine line between winning and losing the past four years, including the 12-1 season in 2012.

“We’ve never been as young as [this] on defense.”Kelly. “We’ve never had this much difficulty holding on to the football on offense.”

“We really think the self-inflicted wounds on offense have been the story of the season so far.”Kelly then cites the defensive youth.

“When we turn it over, it’s catastrophic turnovers … We’re not getting the fumble that ends up in the end zone and we fall on it.”Kelly

Brian Kelly wants Everett Golson to always know where Louisville safety Gerod Holliman is. Holliman has 13 interceptions this season.

“I’m not getting paid to make stupid decisions like that.” HC Brian Kelly on the failed two-point conversion attempt

HC Brian Kelly on Cam McDaniel‘s response to fumble: “I told him I’d do the same thing over again: I’d give him the football.”

“We ran the ball for more than 200 yards and 40 times this past weekend and that didn’t help much, because we fumbled the ball.”Kelly

Kelly expects some defensive line alignment and rotation changes with Sheldon Day out for the next two weeks. Utupo, Matuska, etc.

Brian Kelly very high on CB Cole Luke, singling him out as someone who’s “out-performed” on ‘s defense.

Cole Luke “has really outperformed in our eyes in a number of ways,” Kelly says re: the sophomore cornerback.

Cody Riggs “will get some playing timer for us,” Kelly says. I’d expect a limited snap count once again.

“Max is a kid we’re going to continue to work with and we’ve got to get him there … He’s our guy.” — More Brian Kelly on Max Redfield

“I really think you have to look at him as a freshman this year. He played in the bowl game and that’s it.”Kelly re: Max Redfield

“He’s good enough to be the starting safety at off the hash, and that’s not bad.”Brian Kelly on Drue Tranquill

Kelly on Brindza‘s mindset: “I don’t think he’s been down this road before… Upsetting the routine really got to him.”

HC Brian Kelly on Cam McDaniel‘s response to fumble: “I told him I’d do the same thing over again: I’d give him the football.”

Kelly’s words on Utupo sound a lot like what he said about Tyler Stockton last year. Both ended up being needed as fifth-year seniors.
