6’1″ KAITLYN DOWNEY from Hasting on the Hudson ( Maria Regina H.S. ) became one of the most popular players on the East Coast with college coaches over the last 9 months after shining with the Empire State Hoops AAU program.
Over the weekend this versatile Forward decided to end her recruiting process when she pledged to FORDHAM and Coach Stephanie Gaitley.
” Overall, the recruiting process proved to be a very exciting, yet an emotional process. Many of my top schools offered lots of the key aspects my family and I were looking for, like school size, academics and conference. However, at the end of the day, I saw Fordham University was my best fit. The proximity was the main reason I fell in love with Fordham. Twenty minutes away from home, could not have made it any easier for my parents to come watch all my home games. Also, Fordham’s academic piece drew me in. The chance to graduate in three years and work for a Master’s in my fourth was something that was very appealing to me. Additionally, I felt very comfortable with the players. Lastly, the coaching staff at Fordham sold it all. I never felt more comfortable, knowing that my growth as a person and in the classroom was just as important as my growth on the court. At the end of the day, I am thrilled to be a part of the Ram family. ”
” Coach Gaitley was one of the easiest coaches I have spoken to throughout the process. There was no pressure, but she always wanted me to stay aware of everything that was happening. I am super excited to get coached by Stephanie Gaitley and I am eager to learn. ”
” My advice to players currently experiencing the process is to stay true to what you want in a school. Do not just look at the big name. Rather think realistically and see what truly fits your core values. At the end of the day, it will be obvious what is the right fit for you. “
